drifting
i try really hard to blog. i've written several in the past few weeks, but my time spent at the computer in the summer is just..well..interrupted. constantly. even now at 9:24pm and i have to stop. think. answer a question. rethink. what was i saying?????
my eldest wrecked on his skateboard. saved his broken arm that is in a cast. tore up his other arm. his hips. his leg. his ankles. crazy. he is the cautious one. the one who thinks. he is not a daredevil. he beat himself up for choosing to go down a really big hill. he was at a friend's party. called me to come get him. by the time i got there was kicking himself for not having a video camera on hand. ya know...near death experiences are very popular on youtube.
must go. i promised myself i would go to bed really early tonight.

homeschool camp
was okay. the best part was hanging with my two of my best buds. the worst part was being responsible for 24 1-3 graders two of which were actually kindygartners doing first grade work (crazy homeschoolers). three of which were our own children who we had to keep in line. the food was typical camp food. high carb and not one stinkin' vitamin. the room we slept in was damp. oh so damp. isabel got in bed with me one night and asked if i had wet it! yeah, that's what happens when you turn 40 and go to camp. it's taken me about 3 days to recover. cora had fun though! and i would do it all again to see her bonding with the other girlies. complete strangers...hand in hand...arm in arm. whispering at night. promising to be friends forever and ever and ever. she makes friends SO easy. and it's SO easy at that age. she's already asked if she can go next year. yeah, baby. however, mama's staying HOME!! OH and i didn't mention that my eldest son, who has made it for 13 almost 14 years with NO broken anything broke his arm/wrist playing basketball. sadly, there was line dancing and basketball playing at the same time and those durn line dancers tripped him up. oh well, it's a good story.
i am looking forward to FARM camping. camping on my own terms. i'm ready. anyone want to join me???

oh and i forgot
to mention that her husband had been out of town, multiple critters were dwelling in her house while he was gone (dead and alive) AND she had one of my kids the night before for a sleepover! i can't believe i actually LET her clean the poop. i am definitely the lamo friend....!:)
you know your friend loves you when....
she comes over to hang out and ends up cleaning up the old, dried dog poop on the sunroom floor that's been there a week before you left for vacation so that's 3 weeks of old, dried dog poop that your husband didn't have time to clean up, that you refuse to clean up because you will throw up, that smelled like dead bunny because your dog "played" with three bunnies and consumed them before you left. THAT is how you know your friend loves you. or just feels really sorry for you. OH and did i mention she did this while i sat on the couch drinking coffee that SHE made? some friends are just too good to be true.

why....
is it so hard to mop the floor? is it because i know that within minutes it will be dirty again? i want a clean house i really do, but i sometimes feel NO motivation. i have a constant running list in my head...cleaning, rearranging, painting. then i have the reality of life, i have 5 kids! and i homeschool! what did you say? they need to be able to read? write? add and subtract? does watching animal planet and the discovery channel count? okay, any family members who might read this....get a grip...i'm just KIDDING! (maybe) my friend sonya has an amazing house. it's SO sparse. and clean. and i think it's clean because it's so sparse. i love that. i'm TRYING to let go of a few things. i'm tired of CLUTTER!
we are painting the exterior of our house this weekend. the shutters and garage door. we're digging holes for trees. our front yard is BARE. we feel like fish out of water in this neighborhood, but we can't really go anywhere else right now. SO, i want to embrace my house. i think if i clean it up and fix it up i'll love it more. i do have to be thankful that my kids can run around and be safe. there are TONS of kids around. the boy next door is here more than home. there are about 5 little girls just on our street and cora has about 3 friends on the street one over. SO the kids have a great little community and for that i am thankful. my closest friend on the street is my 70 year old neighbor. she's really great and i think if she were my age we'd be even better buddies. it's really cool to me to find older people who are hip and not at all conservative.
my two year old son just asked me to put a ponytail in his hair. he's running around in a white princess dress and wants to dance for me. huh. now that's an education...

vacation
i love vacation. i love the beach. i feel guilty about the money to get there. when the second week hits, we are with our friends and that is a complete blast, BUT i do have to laugh at the place we stay. can you say money, money and more money? the only way we can barely afford it is because there are two families. i am completely thankful that we've found a great house that we all have space in (there are 9 children) but it does feel a bit decadent. we went into seaside yesterday (it's in the panhandle, near destin). i've been there a couple of times before, but yesterday had a chance to sit and watch people (that was because i had a SLAMMIN' marguerita at a taco bar and couldn't really walk around and do the shopping thing:)). anyway, i felt that if i saw anymore bermuda plaid shorts and collared polo shirts that i would vomit up that lovely drink. the funny thing is that there was a big harley bike fest going on and the mix was very entertaining. i'm glad i wasn't born into wealth. i mean paying the bills would be nice. being out of debt would be nice, but that uppercrust thing....that old money thing...that wealth that overlooks the underdog....i couldn't be a part of that and stay sane.
we drove 13 hours to get home today. i am trashed. and tommorrow i get to stand in line at my co-op to register. woohoo! i sometimes feel like our registration is a big drama. i really wish they could figure out an online solution. anyway....i'm happy to be in my own bed.
